A Morning in the Life of 15-Month-Old Twins
I’m going to write this blog post a little different. I am going to write it from the perspective of my 15-month-old twins. If they could talk, this is what I think they would say about their experiences and development in the last month.
How We Spend Our Morning
Waking Up
Sometimes when I wake up I’m right near my brother on our floor bed and other times I wake up near my bed and can move to go find him. I often let him know I’m awake so we can start playing together. We go over to our shelf to find some books or a toy to play with. A lot of the time we will peek under the curtains and look outside. If we wake up early enough, we may even see Dad drive off to work. I like being a twin because I always have a friend with me.
Mom comes in after a while of us playing and says, “Good morning!” She turns on a lamp, turns off our sound machine, and greets us with a hug and kiss. She always brings in our water bottles so we can take a drink. We are always very thirsty in the morning. Mom will always have a cup of coffee with her and when I try to touch it she tells me “hot”.

Getting Ready
Some mornings, we get dressed right away, while on others, we stay in our pajamas. When we get dressed, we use a chair that perfectly fits us. I can choose my clothes from my wardrobe, but I still don’t care too much about what clothes I wear so mom usually chooses something for us.
While mom makes her bed and gets dressed we like to play in her room. Sometimes we are very hungry and would rather go right downstairs. So we will whine at her feet to let her know this information.
We love the mornings when we get to start a load of laundry and help press the buttons. There are lots of things we help Mom with around the house. Now that we can walk, it is fun to walk things throughout the house.
Breakfast
Then we get to go downstairs to have breakfast. Usually, mom still has to prepare it, so we can get a little impatient for the oatmeal to cook or our toast to be done. We like to bring our plates to the table. However, sometimes we get distracted and set them on the floor. Mom helps us into our high chairs that let us sit at our big dining room table. Even though we just figured out how to climb on the dining room chairs, Mom doesn’t let us sit in those for mealtimes. She says we could fall and get hurt.
Our favorite breakfast is probably oatmeal with peanut butter and heavy cream. We also love to spread butter or peanut butter on our fresh sourdough toast. The worst part is getting cleaned up from the meal. Neither of us likes to get our hands or faces wiped very much. So thankfully, Mom got a step stool and a water faucet extender for the bathroom so we can go and get washed up more independently. We love to get cleaned up this way!
Cleaning Up Breakfast
Most mornings we stay home. Sometimes we will run an errand, which is fun when we do. We have toys that we can choose from on a shelf in our living room. But a lot of the time we enjoy playing in the kitchen cabinets with Mom while she cleans up breakfast. Some mornings the dishwasher needs to be unloaded, so we help with that. We hand Mom all the things from the dishwasher for her to put away since we can’t reach them.
When Mom is still cleaning up or preparing food for dinner and we want her to be with us we pull at her legs and cry. She will either tell us she is almost finished, come and be with us, or pull out the kitchen swing and backpack wrap. One of us will get to go in the swing, today it was me. And Mom can push me while she does the dishes. When I get to go in the swing, it usually makes my brother sad because he also wants to swing. So Mom will put my brother in the backpack carrier for a piggyback ride while Mom cleans up. Sometimes she makes us switch to take turns. I don’t always like this becuase sometimes I want to keep swinging longer.
Play Time
Our new favorite activity is super fun and big. It is this giant 5-gallon empty water jug that we get to drop ping pong balls into. It is really fun to roll or carry around. The ball makes a fun sound when we drop it in.

When Mom comes to sit down by our work we both want to be the first and only baby to sit on her lap. Sometimes we get into arguments over who should be able to sit on mom’s lap or what book we should read. Mom tries to help us find an activity to work with.
Then we will usually go back upstairs to move the clothes in the washer into the dryer and help Mom fold laundry. We will hand her things from the basket. On Fridays, Mom vacuums the house and we like to follow the vacuum around!

Snacks and Boundaries
We love to have snacks in the morning. Usually, we climb into our chairs at our weaning table to have a snack. Our new favorite snack is sliced apples, other times we have raisins or crackers. We can say cracker by saying “cra-cra”. When we say this, Mom understands us which makes us happy.

the Apple Saga
I sometimes try to walk away from the table but then Mom will take my apple from me and put it back on the table. She says I can have my apple at the table. This makes me very upset and I usually cry about it. Sometimes I even make my body fall to the floor becasue I’m so mad. I just want to eat my apple in the living room, but she won’t let me.
I’ll go back to the table to eat my apple but then run off with it again. Mom takes it from me again and puts it on the table. I get upset again, but now when I go to the table, Mom sits close by and I can either eat my snack in her lap or in my chair. I told this part of the story, but my brother does the same thing. Sometimes we both run off with our apples in different directions. Both of us get our apples put back on the table.
Sometimes we both get mad at the same time and our house gets loud. I just feel so angry inside when I don’t get to do what I want and the only thing I know how to do is cry and be upset. Mom speaks calmly to me when I’m upset, which is nice but I usually stay upset for a little while. Then I get happy again and move on to the next part of my day.
That’s It!
