The Best Montessori Toys for Young Toddlers

There are so many toys out there that are marketed as Montessori but may have little to no resemblance to Montessori toys. After raising twins through their young toddler months, I wanted to share the top Montessori toys that my boys have dearly loved and played with so much. Here are some of the absolute Montessori favorite toys for young toddlers!

Large Ball Tracker

A large ball tracker is a toy that we have had out in our play environment since around a year old. It remains engaging for them and leads to lots of repetition. As the ball runs down the ramps and falls to the next level, it creates that exciting “clunk” until it drops through its’ last hole, and those little hands grab the ball and drop it into the hole again. Over and over, it goes.

Spin-Again

The SpinAgain toy has spanned many months for our boys. Initially, the work isolates posting the disk onto the spindled dowle. As an older toddler, those mechanics of the toy are not as much of a draw towards repetition. Instead the sounds the toy makes. Each colorful disk spins down until “click”, it is stuck in place. Then they can easily tip the toy upside down and make all the disks come racing down off the dowel.

Coin Drop

Pincer grip, wrist rotation, and perseverance are all skills that accompany a coin drop activity. This coin drop drawer allows them to pull out the drawer to retrieve the coin and place it in again and again. This toy leads to repetition and builds concentration as well as supports so many aspects of fine motor development.

Pop-Up Peg Toy

These pop-up pegs feel like little buddies at this stage in parenting. As a baby, this was a fun toy to have out simply for grasping and posting the pegs back into the holes. For a young toddler, they are working on making the pegs jump up and matching the colors of the pegs to their holes. Secretly, I think this is one of my favorite toys we own!
